Marketplace Terms & Prohibited Items
How it works
The AjaxPickering.ca Marketplace is a free community bulletin board for Ajax & Pickering residents to buy, sell, and give away items locally. It's a listing venue only — AjaxPickering.ca is not a party to any sale, does not handle payments, does not verify items or people, and offers no buyer or seller protection. All dealings are strictly between the buyer and seller, at their own risk.
Staying safe
- Meet in a busy public place in daylight — many people use a police-station Community Safety Zone.
- Bring a friend, and tell someone where you're going.
- Inspect the item before you pay. Pay in person.
- Never send an e-transfer, deposit, gift card, wire, or crypto before seeing an item — that's how scams work. AjaxPickering.ca will never ask you to.
- For free/curb-alert & garage-sale items, agree a pickup time so items aren't left out in the weather or taken by passersby.
- Report anything suspicious with the Report button on a listing.
Prohibited items
To keep the community safe and legal, the following may not be listed. Listings are screened and can be removed, and repeat offenders suspended:
- Weapons, firearms, ammunition, or replicas.
- Alcohol, tobacco, vaping products, cannabis, or any illegal drugs.
- Prescription medication, supplements making health claims, or medical devices.
- Live animals or pets (please use a reputable rescue/breeder).
- Counterfeit, replica, or stolen goods; recalled products.
- Event tickets above face value (scalping).
- Adult services or sexually explicit material.
- Anything illegal to sell in Ontario/Canada, or that you don't own or aren't authorized to sell.
Housing/rental, job, vehicle, and real-estate listings are not offered at this time.
Your agreement
By posting, you confirm you own the item (or are authorized to list it), it's legal to sell and not prohibited, and your details are accurate. You agree that AjaxPickering.ca may review, edit, or remove any listing, is not responsible for any transaction or content, and provides the service "as is." Be respectful; harassment, spam, and commercial abuse are not permitted. These terms may change as the marketplace evolves.
