AjaxPickering.ca strives to ensure that its services are accessible to people with disabilities. AjaxPickering.ca has invested a significant amount of resources to help ensure that its website is made easier to use and more accessible for people with disabilities, with the strong belief that every person has the right to live with dignity, equality, comfort and independence.
Accessibility on AjaxPickering.ca
AjaxPickering.ca provides its own built-in Accessibility Widget — developed and hosted entirely by us, with no third-party service and no external tracking. It lets every visitor tailor the site to their needs and helps us work toward compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1 AA) and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
The widget includes one-click accessibility profiles (Vision Impaired, Seizure Safe, ADHD Friendly, Dyslexia Friendly and Keyboard Navigation) as well as individual tools to:
- enlarge text and adjust line height, letter spacing and word spacing;
- switch to a readable or dyslexia-friendly font, and align text;
- change colour and contrast (dark, light, high-contrast, invert) and saturation (low, high, monochrome);
- highlight links and headings, enlarge the cursor, and give keyboard focus a bold outline;
- hide images, stop animations, and turn on a reading guide or reading mask.
Your selections are remembered in your browser and re-applied automatically on every page you visit, until you reset them.
Enabling the Accessibility Menu
Open the accessibility menu at any time by selecting the accessibility icon (a person within a circle) in the Echo toolbar on the edge of the page. The menu opens instantly — there is nothing to download or wait for. Choose a profile or individual tools, and use “Reset all” to return to the standard view. The menu is fully keyboard-operable and can be closed with the Esc key.
