About Stephen
As a Pickering resident for the past 20 years and father of two, I am proud to be seeking the office of Durham District School Board (DDSB) trustee for the City of Pickering. My two children, one entering postsecondary in the fall and the other in elementary school, serve as my greatest inspiration on this journey.
In my 10+ years of community development and public service experience, working for the Toronto District School Board and the City of Toronto, I worked relentlessly to support marginalized and hard-working communities who face barriers in accessing their fair share of this country’s prosperity and growth. As your school board trustee, I will bring that same devotion, skill and tact to create results you can see.
While also an avid soccer fan, I had the privilege of coaching in the recreation league with Pickering Soccer club for four years, combining my love for soccer with my passion to support growth and collaboration between young people.
I am certain that my energetic and hopeful approach to every challenge will translate into the positive and lasting change that my children and yours, deserve.
Platform
As your trustee I will:
Fight to increase access to much needed mental health supports for students.
Exercise every tool available to me to execute coordinated efforts that address the root causes of violence, with swift and adept crisis response that keep our children physically and mentally safe.
Actively listen to the diverse and growing communities of Pickering and champion equitable education opportunities for all students, including students who are Black and racialized, Indigenous students, students with disabilities, students who are new to the country, and students from the LGBTQ2S+ communities.
Amplify and unify diverse voices, thoughts, and ideas to achieve the true potential of DDSB, providing a safe, inclusive and thoughtful environment for our students of today and tomorrow.
