About Dave
My name is Dave Currie and I am running for Pickering Ward 2 City Councillor.
As a father and grandfather, I have coached youth sports including hockey and soccer in the community. I have been a parishioner at St. Isaac Jogues for 30 years.
During my 40-year career as a tradesperson, I was elected to shop steward at his workplace and fostered diversity in his leadership role. With a passion for bettering our community through politics, I have volunteered in previous elections at all levels, and I ran for Ward 2 City Councillor in 2018.
I am proud to hail from Pickering and I am excited about representing Ward 2 if elected to City Councillor. As a resident of Ward 2 for more than 30 years, I thoroughly understand the issues facing the community, and will champion these important matters at City Hall. Your concerns are my issues.
Platform
Pickering is vibrant and rapidly-growing. Ward 2 is its main community hub and central area for business. It is critical that its residents have strong representation at City Council. As a resident of Ward 2 for more than 30 years, and after engaging with Ward 2 residents and listening to their questions and issues, I thoroughly understand the issues facing the community. If elected to Ward 2 City Councillor, I will champion these important matters at City Hall.
As Ward 2 City Councillor, I will:
- Protect the natural habitat ahead of development, and review development proposals to ensure they fit the fabric of Ward 2.
Control condo city and ensure that builders are charged development fees to alleviate property taxes, provide infrastructure funds, and reduce taxpayers’ burden. - Advocate for residents regarding the extended services of Pickering Nuclear Generating Station, as they are key stakeholders of OPG.
- Provide tax relief to residents by holding tax increases.
- Support term limits for elected positions to strengthen local democracy.Â
- Create and publish a lobbyist registry to promote transparency.
- Implement a traffic safety study for residential roads, making daily life safer.
