David Pickles - INCUMBENT

Councillor David Pickles, his wife of 33 years, Brenda, and their two daughters have been residents in the Brock Ridge neighbourhood of Ward 3 in Pickering for over 30 years. Councillor Pickles was first elected to Council in 1997. He was re-elected to Ward 3 in 2000, 2003, 2006, 2010, and elected as Regional Councillor in 2014 and 2018.

He works hard for residents to ensure fair taxes, sustainable and orderly growth, improved infrastructure, the attraction and growth of business, new recreational amenities, and a safe community.

David holds a Bachelor of Environmental Studies – Honours Geography Degree from the University of Waterloo. He had a 32 year career in senior positions with several Ontario government ministries, which included experience in budgeting, planning, and environmental protection. In 2013, Councillor Pickles was awarded the prestigious Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his work in the community.

David has been a representative on Ontario’s Big City Mayors committee, chair of Regional Health and Social Services, and chair of the Race Relations Committee. He initiated the Code of Conduct for City Council, and proposed that Pickering be a willing host for the new casino and resort, a source of non-residential tax revenue.  In his efforts to maintain fair taxes, he has consistently fought for low increases in times of high inflation and rising costs.
