Corneliu Chisu

I am Corneliu Chisu the candidate for People's Party of Canada for Pickering Uxbridge the party that puts the freedom and interest of Canadians first.

My basic education is in engineering, engineering physics specialty from the Polytechnic Institute in Bucharest Romania and a Master of Engineering degree from the University of Toronto in the same specialty.

Life events have given me the opportunity to practice engineering, international relations and trade, diplomacy, project management, and military engineering on three continents (Europe, North America and Asia). Lastly, I have worked in politics as the elected Member of Parliament for Pickering Scarborough East in Canada's 41st Legislature (2011-2015).

In engineering, my first career, I initially worked in the area of infrared research, semiconductor devices and nuclear energy and finally as a project manager for Genivar, now WSP, one of the largest engineering companies in Canada.

My experience in international trade and relations stems from my years of work at the Italian Trade Commission in both Europe and Canada where I promoted Italian small and medium size business exports on the international market by providing them with market support and market intelligence.

I served in the Canadian Armed Forces, reserve, regular force and cadets for 24 years. Being in the regular force, military engineers, I was deployed in Bosnia Herzegovina (2004) in peace keeping operations and in Kandahar, Afghanistan in war operations (2007). I can say that my time in the military comprised some of the most fulfilling and proud moments in my life.

In the House of Commons I was Member of the National Defence, Veterans and Official Languages Committees.

I was Executive Member of the Canada-NATO and Canada-European Union Parliamentary Association and I participated actively in the work of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, contributing to the successful negotiation of the free trade Agreement between Canada and the European Union.

On my volunteer activities and community service, I enjoy giving back to the community. I can say that I am a proud member of the Pickering Ajax Italian Club, the 606 Legion of Pickering, the Military Engineers Association of Canada, the 78th Fraser Highlander-York, the Churchill Society, and I am a board member of the education committee of the Former Parliamentarians Association of Canada.

For my professional and volunteer activities I have been awarded several honors:

• Military Awards: CD1, CD, NATO medal for Balkan Operations, The Canadian Peacekeeper Medal, The Afghanistan General Campaign Star, 2007;
• Civilian Awards: The Commemorative Medals for the Golden Jubilee and Diamond of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, The Province of Ontario Volunteer Award 2005;
• Professional Awards: The Professional Engineers of Ontario Order of Honour Member 2006 and Officer 2013, Fellow, Engineers Canada, 2009; and
• Governor General approved Foreign Awards: Civic Merit Medal Republic of Moldova 2012, Knight Cross "Civic Merit" Republic of Hungary 2014, Officer Cross "Civic Merit" Republic of Romania 2016.
